natter  by Joe Henry-Evans

Natter is a one-act comedy set in 1980s Salford, following Helen and Linda, two "old women" who spend their time grappling with useless husbands, a homosexual son, and most importantly, what's on telly!

(* Helen and Linda may, or may not, be played by two gay men in dresses!

Developed through Qweerdog's new writing project, Qweer Shorts, Natter is written by, and stars, award-winning artist, Joe Henry-Evans (Cock Thearapy, Best Newcomer, GMFringe 2021) alongside John Thacker, directed by Qweerdog's artistic director, Stewart Campbell (Absolute Certainty?, Hope Mill Theatre, OUT, 53Two).

‘Neither Henry-Evans nor Thacker are convincing as women, but that is beside the point.’

REVIEWS

'Impressively, Natter avoids sentimentality, and... manages to combine a bittersweet atmosphere of resignation with a gloriously silly moment... it handles potentially traumatic subjects in a way which is inspiring and great fun to watch.'

'the power of this lovely piece is not what is said but what is gently implied and what is not said... the narrative so much more powerful and effective.'

This one-act version of Natter debuted at last summer's Greater Manchester Fringe, and won Best Comedy Play for the team. As well as being shortlisted for the Write for the Stage Award, Canal St LGBTQ+ Award, and Audience Choice Award.
